Choosing the right aquarium lighting is especially important when keeping shrimp. For many, shrimp are more than just part of the aquarium – they are the main attraction. With the right light, their colors, patterns, and movements are highlighted in a natural and vibrant way, while plants and mosses get the conditions they need.

Light that highlights the shrimp

Shrimp like Crystal Red, Blue Dream, or Amano show their best colors in the right lighting. A balanced light spectrum makes red tones deeper, blue hues clearer, and transparent parts more shimmering. Too strong light, however, can stress the shrimp, especially in smaller tanks, so it's important to find a good balance.

Important for plants and biofilm

In a shrimp aquarium, plants, mosses, and biofilm are just as important as the inhabitants themselves. Shrimp constantly graze on surfaces and largely feed on microorganisms that grow in the aquarium. With the right lighting, the growth of both plants and the natural biofilm is stimulated, creating a stable and healthy environment.

LED – flexible and energy-efficient

Modern LED fixtures are now the obvious choice for shrimp aquariums. They provide even light, low heat generation, and long lifespan. Many models also have a dimmer function, which is a great advantage in smaller tanks where the light can easily become too intense. The ability to adjust the light intensity makes it easier to create a calm environment where shrimp dare to be active.

Adapt to the size of the aquarium

A small nano aquarium requires a different type of lighting than a larger shrimp aquarium with dense planting. Consider the depth of the aquarium, the amount of plants, and the type of shrimp you keep. Generally, shrimp thrive best in an environment with a clear day-night rhythm, so it's good to use a timer to create regular light periods.
