Gravel and sand play an important role in a shrimp aquarium, both for appearance and function. The right bottom substrate creates a natural environment where shrimp can graze biofilm, feel secure and move without risk of injury. Grain size and material are especially important for sensitive shrimp, such as Caridina.

Gravel and sand in this category are aquarium safe and selected for use in shrimp tanks. They contain no harmful additives and do not negatively affect water values. A stable and neutral bottom substrate provides good conditions for biofilm, microorganisms and a long-term functioning shrimp environment.
